Columbia Store Access

BAPA Members can save 40-50% at the Columbia Employee Store!  LAST OPPORTUNITY IN 2019!

The fine folks at the Columbia Employee store have given us another opportunity to visit, perfectly timed for the holidays.  BAPA members with a voucher can access the employee store from 11/1/19 - 11/24/19.  If you haven't been, it's pretty impressive both in the product selection and price.  We get massive savings on Columbia, Sorel, and Mountain Hardwear gear.  Typical prices are 50% off retail!  Login to your BAPA account or email [email protected] to get the voucher.

Monster Mash 🧟

November 2 and November 3 in Big Sur!

The Monster Mash is a get together and social that will be held at the Plaskett Creek Campground on Nov. 2 and 3. BAPA has reserved 4 campgrounds, which some members have already spoken for. Saturday night there will be a pot luck. Bring food to share. In the past, we have had costumes, but it is after Halloween, so you will be just wearing your normal whatever works for you.

Saturday morning we will meet at the Ranger Station at 9:30 or so and try to organize rides up the hill. We may have to do several rounds to get everyone up. Flying is optional and NOT sponsored by BAPA. Wild Cattle is an unregulated site and you fly at your own risk.

If you've never flown Big Sur before, these site guides will help you learn what to expect.  Fly Zephyr - Big Sur and Airtime of San Francisco's Big Sur site guide.

Getting Involved

WE NEED YOU: BAPA may not be able to continue without volunteers coming forward for next year so it's extremely important that people come forward now!  Thanks!

Please consider volunteering with BAPA.  It's time for officer elections, and you can make a significant difference with our club.  Positions include President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Activities Director, and Safety Coordinator.

There has been plenty of discussion among the officers on how BAPA can transform to serve our membership better especially in the current USHPA/RRG environment.  Having motivated individuals among our leadership is vital to our future, and we can always use help, regardless of whether it's in an official capacity. BAPA is a group of like-minded pilots who want to build and broaden the paragliding community in the San Francisco Bay Area.

If you're interested in knowing more, want to volunteer, or want to run for an officer position, please email [email protected].

No Holiday Party Planned

Just an FYI that we're not planning on a BAPA Holiday Party this year.  As you get together with your Paragliding Peeps this season, please add BAPA into the discussion, and let us know what activities/events you'd like for next year.

Thanks to everyone who attended the XC Clinic!

On September 7th, BAPA and Free Flight Lab sponsored an XC Clinic by Ed Stein and Honza Rejmanek.  50+ people were in attendance making this the unofficial largest PG gathering in the history of Ed Levin!

100+km from Mt. Diablo

Congrats to local pilots Josh Cohn, Bill Hetzel, Ben Wedlock, and Evan Cohen for their big XC flights on Sept 30th from Mt. Diablo.  Evan, last year's BAPA Site Director, flew 140km and landed in Los Banos! Evan's tracklog

The weather starts to change this time of year, and flying can be less reliable.  Here's a couple links to keep you in the loop:

GOES-16 high-resolution satellite imagery has been online for almost 2 years and it's still mesmerizing and beautiful to watch

That's all for now!  Looking forward to flying with you soon.
