Next BAPA Meeting/Social - Saturday, October 10th at Mussel Rock - 6:00pm

Members/Local Pilots,

The next BAPA Meeting and Social Event will be held on Saturday, October 10th at Mussel Rock at 6:00pm.  We will meet in the parking lot at Mussel Rock in the center area.  The intent of the meeting is to discuss business that pertains to all of us at the coast (and in the Bay Area) and also to mix and socialize with fellow pilots.

Our upcoming meeting will be very important as we will be discussing changes to the Funston and Stables permits that could potentially affect flying from Mussel Rock.  I would like as many members to attend as possible as we will be discussing and voting on some critical issues pertaining to this.  USHPA has also been involved with this on the national level, so it is a very big deal.  This will be the time to make your opinions known to the community.

We will also be discussing safety at the coast in the wake of two recent fatalities (PG & HG) and one near fatality (blow back into power lines in August).  I'll have a more specific agenda in the few days prior to the meeting.

BAPA will be providing food for this Meeting/Social event.  Please bring your own beverage (wine, beer, etc) or better yet bring some extra beverages to share.

I would also appreciate it if you would let me know in advance if you will be able to attend (or possibly attend) by emailing me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .  I would like to know how many folks are coming so I can make food preparations accordingly.

See you all on Saturday, October 10 at Mussel Rock!

Big Sur Monster Mash Fly-in - October 30 to November 1st

Members,

BAPA invites you and your friends/family to attend the 2015 Monster Mash, on October 30 to November 1st, 2015 at Big Sur.  Due to the wildfire shutting down flying at Dunlap, this will be our only fly-in this fall and the last fly-in of the year.

This will be a family-friendly event; non-flying partners and kids are especially welcome.  BAPA has reserved the biggest group campsite at Plaskett Creek Campground for Friday and Saturday nights; campsite GS-2.   I'm super excited as I have been wanting to reserve this site for years, it is the best group campsite in the entire campground.

Saturday evening, after flying, we will have a Halloween party, with prizes for the best costumes, the best jack-o-lanterns (i.e., decorated pumpkins, for those of you who didn't grow up in the US).  Flying-related prizes will also be awarded as well as a MVD (most valuable driver) award.  We encourage all of you to bring a bowl of candy (so the kids of all ages can go trick-or-treating) and maybe even decorate your tent!

The weather at Big Sur should be lovely this time of the year, with mild temps during the days and cooler in the evenings.  The campground has grass campsites, flush toilets and running (cold) water.  It's a nice place to hang out and it's right across the street from Sand Dollar Beach, which has spectacular views and breathtaking sunsets.

Please let me know, if you plan to attend via email (dThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).  I will send out an Evite to the confirmed attendees a couple of weeks before the event to coordinate food for a potluck dinner on Saturday night.  If you plan to bring kids, please also let me know their ages (as early as possible), so we can have appropriate prizes/party favors for them.  This will be the last fly-in of the year, so you don't want to miss it!

SF BAPA Fly-In, Dunlap, CA, May 2-3 2015

Hello Members!

The next BAPA Fly-In will be held at Dunlap on May 2nd-3rd 2015.

Dunlap is one of the most consistent sites around.  Note that Dunlap is a P-3 site, though P-2 pilots may fly there with qualified sponsors and supervision - and best arranged in advance.  Please RSVP if you're thinking about coming to Dunlap, and we will set up an Evite with all the respondents the week prior to the fly-in for coordination.

SF BAPA has obtained reservations for our group at St Nicholas Ranch. There will be dorm rooms for men and women for $15 per night, and more private lodge rooms at $70 per night.

St Nick’s can also provide our group a hearty breakfast Saturday and Sunday mornings, as well as a full dinner Saturday evening. The meals are quite reasonable - I believe $10 for full breakfast and $15 for dinner. St Nick's requires a group of 15 in order to open the kitchen for meals. Note: those pilots choosing to camp in Dan’s LZ can nonetheless participate in meals at St Nicks. Please give advance notice.

As for rides up the hill, we will need to coordinate at the LZ before flying in the mornings, and sort out drivers and retrieves. Please be in the LZ not later than 0900 on Sat and Sun morning, or you may be accidentally left behind.

We will follow up with more information as we get closer to the event and know how many folks plan to attend.  If you are unfamiliar with Dunlap, please read up the site at www.flyzephyr.com/dunlap.htm and the local club's webpage at www.flydunlap.com/  Note that everyone needs to pay their yearly flying dues to the local club prior to flying at Dunlap. Details can be found at the weblink above.
