BAPA Light Wind Launch Clinic: Saturday, October 12, 2013, 09:00am - 12:00pm

Most of us hope for a nice steady breeze when launching. When the wind is light, what to do? Some folks wait for a stronger cycle (which may or may not come). Some folks pop open a beer, deciding it's not that great a day for flying anyway. Some folks wait until the sun goes down, and THEN pop open the beer. Really they are all just avoiding the dreaded Light Wind Launch.

In this clinic, we will be sharing the two most common light wind launch techniques: the forward launch and the running (or dynamic) reverse launch. In many ways these two launches are quite similar, but sometimes one is preferable to the other.  We will watch demonstrations of the launches, review when and how to do each one, and learn the key elements. Then we'll do the most important step in developing a strong light wind launch technique: practice!

We will gather in the LZ at Ed Levin County Park in Milpitas and practice on the 40' hill or the windsock hill (or even just in the flats!). There is no set number of participants, but if you RSVP then we can make sure we have enough people to give feedback.

Clinic leaders: Julie Spiegler and Gever Tulley (both Advanced Instructors, flying since 1990).

(Rain Date: Saturday, October 19, if participants are available.)

Location : Ed Levin County Park, Milpitas
