Jugdeep Aggarwal is keen to set up a league for more junior pilots with the aim of informally teaching pilots how to fly Cross Country at our local sites. The league will be a similar format to the Northern California Cross Country (NCXC) League but will be for pilots flying EN A and EN B gliders, and who have at least a P3.
The Sprint league will be similar to the NCXC league but aimed at more junior pilots. Tasks would be smaller and mainly involve touring the local area without necessarily leaving the valley. No SPOT device required nor Ham license (unlike for the league). There would be full GPS scoring and tasks with defined routes. Routes would be set so that there was an easily landable field within glide.
There is a questionnaire set up to help tailor the Sprint League to the pilots intending on coming out. If you are interested in this format, please fill out the questionnaire!
Note that the deadline for the survey is December 31, 2013. Once the results are tallied, Jug will set up a discussion forum to continue to refine the details of the league. We'll post more info as it becomes available.

The BAPA Weather Clinic will be held at Brightworks (Gever's new school) on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 from 7-10pm. It's located at 1960 Bryant St., San Francisco - between Mariposa and 18th (3 blocks west of Potrero Avenue). Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but the meters only run until 6pm and it's less residential east of the school, so you should be able to find street parking within a block or so.

I knew it would take a while, but I didn't realize just how long... As most of you know, sfbapa.org was hacked in 2011. In trying to determine how seriously compromised the site was, we discovered there had been multiple hacks (over many months). So the safest course of action was to completely rebuild the site from a clean slate. The bad news was how long it took (and how painful it sometimes was). The good news is that we're on the latest version of the website software, it's much more stable and hack-proof, and it offered some nice new features. Plus there is a real back-up system in place now.
You'll notice that there is a lot of content missing. Hopefully most of it will be restored over time (or at least what was found to be useful). Every BAPA Member should remember that they have the ability to add articles to the website, so if you think something interesting should be added - add it!
Meanwhile, since things were so compromised (including some passwords for people who can log in to the administration site), all user passwords were reset.
Here's what ALL BAPA MEMBERS NEED TO DO:

In Memory of Chip Greel
At the request of Chip's family we will have a memorial event at Ed Levin on Sunday, December 4, 2011 around late morning, probably 11:00am or so. Chip's family wants to recognize that Chip loved to fly and to remember him accordingly.
There is a page at Facebook, that anyone can access, where one can put words, pictures etc... to acknowledge Chip Greel http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chip-Greel-Memorial-page/147443288689338
