My guess is that there are a lot of closet hike and flyers out there.
Like me, you like breaking a sweat (not just when you're packing your glider) and you like the mountains + being outdoors in general.
A few things I'd like to propose are below. I want to hear your thoughts on these -- you can join the google group (email distribution list) to keep the conversation going: http://groups.google.com/group/bayareahikeandhuck
Also, we'll be able to discuss this topic at the next BAPA meeting on March 3 at 7pm in Milpitas. I'll go over equipment and places and I'd like to hear from everyone what they've done, would like to do, what they're up for. So show up and let's figure out what we can do.
1) Weekly hike and fly at local Bay Area sites I propose Mission on Tuesdays at 4:30pm starting March 16 which is after daylight savings. I'm open to other sites, too so just propose something.
2) Vol-biv trips in the Sierras and Northern California coastal ranges over weekends I've looked at a number of different routes and possibilities. It's always better to do these things in groups so I'd like to see who wants to join me.
3) Informal vol-biv competition this summer Let's pick a 3-day weekend, pick a route we've checked out, get a few people for ground support, pack some beer, and start walking/flying.

The next BAPA meeting is this Wednesday at the Summit Pointe Golf Course in Milipitas. Directions are under Meetings. Social half hour starts at 6:30PM, with the meeting starting at 7:00PM. Following, the meeting, Jim Chu will talk with us a bit about vol/biv trips he’s done and the equipment he used. Then we’ll have a group discussion about possible routes and a potential vol/biv weekend competition this summer. See you there! Regards, Mike (and Katrina, and Kevin) Activities Co-Directors |

Another year, another BAPA election....
Thanks to everyone who showed their support for our officers by casting a ballot in this uncontested election. We had a 15.5% voter turnout. All nominees have been elected, with no write-in votes cast this year.
Congratulations and Thanks to our new BAPA Officers for 2010:
President: Ann Sasaki Vice President: Haynes (Chip) Sheppard Treasurer: Susan Kent Secretary: Tim Sirianni and Robyn Orr Site Co-Directors: Tom Moock and Wally Anderson Safety Co-Directors: Rolf Bienert Activities Co-Directors: Mike Walker and Kevin Hester and Katrina Karkazis
New officers officially take their positions as of January 1, 2010, but I'm sure they would all be happy to hear from you if you have any ideas or input regarding BAPA. |
