BAPA Hat Creek Fly-in, July 4th-7th, 2013
Members,
The BAPA Hat Creek Fly-in will be Thursday, July 4 through Sunday, July 7, 2013. Hat Creek Rim is located approximately 5 hours northeast of the Bay Area in the Lassen National Forest near Burney, CA. Hat Creek is famous for its evening glass-off with consistent conditions for most of the summer. Mid-day conditions at Hat Creek are usually too turbulent for paragliders so most pilots fly only in the evenings. During the day there are plenty of activities in the area (including close proximity to Lassen National Park) so this fly-in is ideally suited for bringing your significant other.
Hat Creek Rim is an unregulated site located in the Lassen National Forest. Because the site is unregulated, there are no specific pilot requirements to fly the site, however pilots should be comfortable launching in strong winds and flying in turbulence. A P3 rating is recommended, but not mandatory. More information on flying at Hat Creek can be found at: http://flyzephyr.com/hatcreek.htm
We will be camping at Hat Creek Hereford Ranch Campground (http://hatcreekrv.com/). This campground has full facilities and is a short distance to the LZ. If you are interested in attending the fly-in please let me know as soon as you can.
BAPA has reserved some tent camping sites for Thursday thru Saturday nights (people arriving Wednesday need to make their own arrangements) so we would like to get a head count fairly soon. I have tentatively reserved sites 39-44 and some other members have reserved a few sites in this vicinity for themselves. We will probably do some kind of potluck dinner Friday and/or Saturday evening after flying.
As with the last few fly-ins please RSVP and I will send out an Evite soon and communicate with everyone via the Evite. Even if you are interested but not 100% sure if you can attend, email me anyway so you can stay informed of things via the Evite. RSVP by responding directly to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
I'll need a firm head count by Tuesday, June 25 to confirm our camping sites. After this, we will accommodate you if we can but there will be no guarantees of space at the campground.
As usual email me directly at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with any questions.
I look forward to seeing you all at Hat Creek over the 4th!

CANCELLED - Next BAPA Fly-in - Dunlap or Potato Hill, June 8th-9th, 2013
UPDATED 6/4/13 - The Fly-in is cancelled due to weather......
Hello Pilots!
The next BAPA Fly-in will be held next weekend at either Dunlap or Potato Hill, June 8th-9th, 2013. Due to the recent fire we are not quite sure about current flying conditions at Potato, but we hope to have a report on the conditions and the weather forecast for the weekend early next week. I will make the call middle of next week which site will host the fly-in.
Please RSVP to me asap at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you're thinking about coming to the fly-in, and I'll set up an Evite with all the respondents early next week. We will do all the fly-in coordination via the Evite.
Note that Dunlap is a P-3 site and Potato Hill is unregulated, but some mountain thermal experience is recommended. If we fly at Dunlap, please note that everyone needs to pay their yearly flying dues to the local club prior to flying at Dunlap. More information here: www.flydunlap.com/
We will stay in the LZ at Dan Fleming's if we go to Dunlap (St. Nicks is not available) or we will camp at Dixie Glade campground if we go to Potato Hill.
Please RSVP to me asap if you are interested in attending the fly-in next weekend!
Thanks,
Dave McMillan

We have received an email message from Tony Lang asking the club to Help to Support The 2013 U.S. Paragliding Team, and arguing that two Bapa Pilots are members of the Team.
Susan K President thru Chip S suggested to allocate $300. Ricardo pointed out that in the past the participation was at $500 level. After a discussion a motion was moved, seconded and voted to allocate $ 400 to The 2013 U.S. Paragliding Team.
